Oceans Without Borders Vacancies
Oceans Without Borders is a unique collaboration between &Beyond – a luxury travel company with its roots in conservation and experiential guest experiences, and Wild Impact – a non-profit organisation dedicated to community-led development and conservation of Africa’s natural environments.
Bringing together broad expertise, and working intimately with coastal and island communities, we are dedicated to marine conservation and community development at sites where &Beyond and Wild Impact operate, including in Africa, South Asia and South America.
Title: Oceans Without Borders Project Manager

Oceans Without Borders is a Marine conservation initiative, run collaboratively between Wild Impact and &Beyond. Through research, conservation initiatives, raising awareness and working closely with local communities, governments, and other stakeholders, Oceans Without Borders strives to strengthen the conservation status of our island sites, expand opportunities for local community development, and contribute to global efforts to protect our oceans.
KEY OUTPUTS:
Under the guidance of the OWB programme manager, duties include
- Management of the Conservation and Community ranger team; supervision of daily tasks, capacity building and deliverables
- All monitoring and research programmes on the island and under the water
- Liaising closely with other Impact teams including Future Foundations, Future Leaders and Thriving Communities and be comfortable communicating those projects and programmes to both guests and lodge management
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with various stakeholders that will facilitate OWB objectives.
- Be responsible for the management of OWB research infrastructure and equipment maintenance (including OWB house, OWB area of Dive shop, OWB boat, dive gear)
Lodge Guests
- Meet with guests and explain OWB roles on the island and under the water and present on OWB to guests when required.
- Be comfortable with presenting all Impact projects across the combined programmes of Conserve Biospheres Future Foundations, Future Leaders and Thriving Communities
- Be pro-active in fund raising efforts from Guests on the Island across Impact projects
- Accommodate guests and, donors on research activities when required.
Communication & Reporting:
- Attend the daily morning meeting for updates and to plan the day with the General Managers
- Report on project activities to the OWB Programme Manager, &Beyond Benguerra lodge GM and the Wild Impact Southern Africa Regional Manager
- Under the direction of the OWB programme Manager, work with the Impact insights team to collect, analyse and report on OWB Impact and project data
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Minimum of an Honour’s degree in conservation/marine sciences
- Fluent written and spoken English, proficiency in Portuguese would be an advantage
- Mozambique skipper’s licence strongly preferred
- Excellent water proficiency; Advanced Open Water Diver Certification or higher preferred
- Computer competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook
- Good report writing abilities
- Good data analysis skills
- Good organizational and project management skills required to oversee numerous conservation, research and educational projects
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Good presentation/public speaking skills

KEY DUTIES:
- Coordination of the OWB operations across the various seascapes ensuring the efficient delivery of all project activities.
- Management of all conservation research databases, working closely with the Wild Impact impact team to ensure data are collated and stored.
- Participate in relevant conservation and community boards and forums.
- Support the management of the Oceans Without Borders budgets, including finances, payroll, procurement and HR processes.
- Co-ordinate support between Wild Impact and &Beyond Impact projects at regional level where required.
- Procurement of project equipment for the relevant OWB operations, maintenance of equipment inventory across the seascapes and co-ordinating distribution of equipment.
- Support OWB Programme Manager in management of project workplans, deliverable schedules and tracking of project targets.
- Support Programme Manager with HR related management
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Minimum of a master’s degree in conservation/marine sciences
- Proven experience in project implementation, and budget management (e.g. project tracking, compiling, and monitoring budgets, project cycle management, narrative and financial reporting), preferably in an NGO setting.
- Previous experience in developing and maintaining systematic and transparent records in order to keep track of projects and for accountability and auditing.
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
- Marine or conservation impact experience.
- Diligence, tenacity, self-motivated, and disciplined.
- Must have a strong knowledge of project implementation, data management
- Fluent in English with excellent communication skills, and knowledge of relevant cultures and languages would be extremely useful.
- Passion for working in a not-for-profit environment.
