Support projects in the Araucania region, southern Chile that is home to the iconic monkey puzzle tree and offers a unique ecosystem characterized by its ancient forests, active volcanos and diverse wildlife. This area plays a critical role in conservation efforts, serving as a habitat for various species, including endangered flora and fauna. Local communities engage in sustainable practices, relying on eco-tourism and forestry while preserving the cultural significance of these ancient trees. Chile and southwestern Argentina, share a common linguistic heritage as Mapudungun speakers. Today the collective group makes up over 80% of the indigenous peoples in Chile and about 9% of the total Chilean population.
Our partnership leverages the strengths of the two organisations, with the local &Beyond team directly supporting the work of our local project team and our community partners. We believe that conservation is best achieved by ensuring that the benefits of conservation are shared by the communities that are stewards of Asia’s conservation landscapes and seascapes. Our work has a a focus on conserving ecosystems, future foundations, tomorrow’s leaders and thriving communities.
