Wild Impact’s Zanzibari footprint is currently anchored in the Mnemba Island seascape surrounding &Beyond Mnemba Island. Alongside critical coral reef restoration projects in partnership with government, communities and local stakeholders, Wild Impact continues to work closely with Unguja (Zanzibar) Island partner communities.
In 2018, our marine conservation programme, Oceans Without Borders, was established in partnership with &Beyond. Our community work is currently focused on our partner communities of Nungwi, Kidoti, Mbuyutende, Kigomani, Kijini, Juga Kuu, Matemwe and Pwani Mchangani; rural communities with limited social infrastructure, poor education outcomes, high unemployment and limited economic activity.
Our partnership leverages the strengths of the two organisations, with the local &Beyond team directly supporting the work of our local project team and our community partners. We believe that conservation is best achieved by ensuring that the benefits of conservation are shared by the communities that are the stewards of Africa’s conservation landscapes and seascapes. Within this seascape, our current focus is on collaborative projects supporting the outcomes of Conserving Ecosystems, Future Foundations and Tomorrow’s Leaders.
