Wild Impact in consultation with the communities, education bodies and our partner has designed an Environmental Education Programme – known simply as ‘Echo’ for the resonance it has across people’s lives – that not only exposes communities to the game reserves that neighbour them but teaches them about broader environmental topics. Key messages are brought to life in the classroom through structured and curriculum-integrated conservation lessons followed up with field-based practical exposure that immerses learners in the ways of the wild. This game drive experience also helps to expose learners to the socio-economic benefits available to them through ecotourism.
We conduct Game drives to local school students and teachers donated by &Beyond Kichwa Tembo and the led by their rangers. We have a team of 3 Community and Conservation Rangers who present the Echo – Environmental Education Programme in schools which include the development and delivery of curriculum aligned Primary School lessons and activities. The key emphasis being around the biodiversity and conservation importance of Nyekweri Forest and the extended Masai Mara conservation area. The establishment and operation of an indigenous tree nursery at the Conservancy and Saparingo Primary School, that will be run by the Community & Conservation Rangers together with the school teachers and scholars.
