The Bayos Foundation (Fundación Bayos), situated in the Araucanía region, creates a space for healing and growth. The organisation provides young people and their families with access to rehabilitation and mental health services, using nature as a powerful catalyst for change, development and health.
Guided by a clinical team of specialists, and based on three years of practical application, an innovative, nature-based approach is used to achieve healing and wellbeing through hippotherapy (the therapeutic use of horse movement) and forest therapy.
The ‘Valientes’ (meaning ‘brave’) therapeutic programme is especially designed for children facing severe disabilities, and their caregivers. Through these therapist-guided natural interactions and experiences, there is the potential to increase the children’s communication skills, their ability to interact, and develop a sense of belonging.
The Bayos Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life for compromised individuals and their families by bridging the gap in access to mental health and rehabilitation services in rural areas.
“At Fundación Bayos, we believe in accessible, sustainable health and in the power of nature to transform lives. Our partnership with Wild Impact aims to extend this mission even further, strengthening Pucón as a more support and resilient community.” -Blanco Segers, Director
Pucón is located in the Araucanía region south of Chile, close to the UNESCO Araucarias Biosphere Reserve, and is one of the major tourist destinations in Chile. The population is a diverse mix of Chileans, indigenous Mapuche people and foreigners. In addition to tourism-related services such as restaurants, cafes and tourist agencies, agriculture, fish farming, livestock and forestry are an important part of the economic activities.
