Nowhere is this more obvious than in Africa, where even in an environment like Botswana’s Okavango Delta, water scarcity threatens the wildlife and rural communities that live side by side. In the face of dry seasons and droughts compounded in severity by climate change, access to a stable source of water is as precious as life.
Wild Impact has been active in Botswana since 2014, working in collaboration with the &Beyond Botswana team to support rural communities close to the world-famous Okavango Delta. Botswana is renowned for having one of the largest conservation land ratios in Africa, with 25% of the country set aside for its spectacular wilderness and wildlife areas.
The Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a major tourism draw card, is home to Gogomoga and Tsutsubega, two isolated villages in which Wild Impact is active. Wild Impact is also active in Sexaxa, a small rural village in the Ngamiland District, 19 km (11.8 mi.) northeast of Maun Airport. Our partnership leverages the strengths of the two organisations, with the local &Beyond team directly supporting the work of our local project team and our community partners.
