Wild Impact in partnership with &Beyond started working with the Shashe Community in 2020. This remote community, located on the outskirts of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, face significant challenges, with water and food security a top priority. With the nearest main road an hour and a half away, the area is predominantly made up of elderly residents and children, as many young adults leave in search of work. In 2020, Wild Impact and & Beyond, in collaboration with community leadership, established four solar-powered boreholes in the settlements of Gogomoga and Tsutsubega to provide a stable, year-round water supply, with an intended total of ten to encompass access for all households. These endeavours underline the relevance of conservation to life-sustaining community needs.
