Wild Impact has worked with &Beyond since the 1992 foundational beginnings of the Munywana Conservancy, which is located in northern KwaZulu-Natal. Today, this protected area which is a collaboration of private and community landlords that include Zuka Private Game Reserve and the Makhasa Community Trust, spans 28,622 hectares (73 800 acres). The reserve is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including elephants, rhinos, lions, leopards, cheetah and buffalo, contributing to the region’s rich biodiversity.
While the conservancy plays a crucial role in conservation, local communities are also deeply engaged. The conservancy has a historic foundation; in 2007, 9,085 hectares were returned to the Makhasa and Mnqobokazi communities as part of the land restitution process, and at their request, has continued to be used for conservation purposes. Wild Impact and andBeyond work closely with the conservancy and surrounding communities to promote sustainable tourism, improve livelihoods, and ensure the long-term preservation of this vital ecosystem.
