Wild Impact in partnership with &Beyond started working with the Lukungu Community in 2011. Situated along the eastern shore of Lake Victoria in Tanzania’s Serengeti District, Lukungu is a vibrant community with a population of approximately 4,000. Community members primarily engage in fishing and subsistence farming, cultivating crops such as cotton and maize, and raising livestock. Wild Impact initiatives in collaboration with the community have enhanced education resources, primary healthcare facilities and water security solutions. The development of the Lukungu Primary School has encompassed a Preschool and an Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) centre. At the adjacent Antony Mtaka Secondary School, projects include the establishment of a girl’s dormitory, new ablution blocks and teacher accommodation. These endeavours underline the relevance of conservation to meaningful community benefits.
