Tomorrow’s Leaders is dedicated to enhancing tertiary education and environmental awareness in communities that serve as stewards of our landscapes and seascapes. This mission directly aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).
Through the Echo program, we offer children in rural areas the opportunity to learn about the environment through interactive lessons integrated into the school curriculum. These lessons instill respect for and understanding of natural resources, fostering awareness of the connection between humans and wildlife. By highlighting the value of wildlife to ecosystems, the program helps nurture future custodians of our planet. Our Vision 2030 target is that 60% of Gr7 and Gr11 scholars in our partner communities support local conservation efforts and understand climate change.
Wild Impact started working with the Benguerra Island Community in 2014. Benguerra Island, set within Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago, hosts approximately 2,000 community residents who mainly depend on traditional fishing and seasonal tourism for their livelihoods. The island’s infrastructure is limited, with only one primary school serving 437 children and minimal healthcare facilities, posing significant challenges for the community. In 2020, Wild Impact in collaboration with &Beyond initiated programmes to collaboratively protect key habitats and species, enhance educational resources, opportunities and environmental awareness, promote sustainable fishing practices and increase water security. By aligning economic incentives with environmental conservation, Wild Impact aims to empower the community to protect the Bazaruto Archipelago’s unique marine ecosystems.
