An undisclosed number of animals have been introduced to-date, all recovered from illegal wildlife poachers and traders in undercover operations involving several law enforcement authorities. The extreme stress of this experience necessitates a period of stabilisation and rehabilitation by the African Pangolin Working Group’s specialist veterinary team before their monitored soft release into the Munywana Conservancy.
The Munywana research team have successfully developed the ability to care for the animals and support their release, working closely with the teams involved in the other release sites across South Africa and regionally. Before release, the animals are fitted with tracking devices (VHF, UHF/GPS or Satellite) which allow for them to be monitored daily.
