This was in response to the Huntingdon community motivating for a “local” school, given that their scholars were travelling 7km to the nearest school (Lillydale), resulting in poor attendance, poor performance and high dropout rates. The Mpumalanga Department of Education catalyzed the establishment of the School by allocating teachers and providing twelve pre-fabricated classrooms. Wild Impact was initially able to support by providing 10 Enviro Loo ablutions, a borehole for access to water and perimeter fencing.
Over the last two years, Wild Impact, & Beyond and the Sabi Sands Pfunanani Trust have supported the establishment of the first permanent classroom block and a permanent laboratory block. Our intention is to progressively support the establishment of additional permanent classrooms, and other administrative and learning facilities, enabling a progressive phase-out of the prefabricated structures, whilst also addressing the school’s security, energy and water requirements.
