From the evergreen Araucaria forests and Liucura River shoreline, to the snow-capped heights of Villarrica Volcano, these dramatic landscapes lend themselves to year-round adventure. They are also home to the iconic monkey puzzle tree (Araucaria Araucana), the oldest surviving tree species, and offer a unique ecosystem characterised by its ancient forests, active volcanos and diverse wildlife.
This area plays a critical role in conservation efforts, serving as a habitat for various species, including endangered flora and fauna. Our partner communities engage in sustainable practices, relying on eco-tourism and forestry while preserving the cultural significance of these ancient trees. Chile and southwestern Argentina, share a common linguistic heritage as Mapudungun speakers. Today the collective group makes up over 80% of the indigenous peoples in Chile and about 9% of the total Chilean population.
This is a new Wild Impact landscape. We are currently working to support the activities of 3 local organisations namely the Lemu Cooperative, supporting forest restoration, the Bayos Foundation, supporting children with special needs, and Fundación Red de Nuevas Ideas, supporting lake health monitoring and awareness.
