Wild impact started working with partner communities in the Araucanía region in 2024. This area includes the major tourist destination of Pucón and is known for its rich Mapuche heritage. ‘Mapu’ meaning ‘land’ and ‘che’ meaning people – are an indigenous group renowned for their strong sense of identity, and deep connection with nature; food security is supported by the small-scale cultivation of diverse crops and ranching, and acclaimed traditional weaving skills passed from generation to generation. In collaboration with &Beyond, Wild Impact is supporting established initiatives to provide community healthcare, education, enterprise development and the conservation of key habitats: assisting these communities to turn the stewardship of their landscape into sustainable livelihood opportunities.
