The 32 500 ha Lake Manyara National Park has been a UNESCO Man and Biosphere reserve since 1981, highlighting its importance in the regional landscape. Our partner communities are the Moya and Mayoka communities, located to the south of the park and adjacent to the Lake. They are home to over 7 600 residents, who are largely dependent on subsistence farming and livestock keeping.
Over the past 5 years, we have been privileged to provide significant support for the development of the local clinic and primary schools, and support for the establishment of a new secondary school. In addition, we have recently implemented a Climate Resilient Communities programme in response to the reality that both communities are being directly affected by climate change. A Cameras for Conservation project is being implemented to nurture ongoing support for the protection of resident and transient wildlife.
In collaboration with Tanzania National Parks and &Beyond, we are also piloting a habitat restoration programme clearing bush encroachment and alien plant species.
