Wild Impact in partnership with &Beyond started working with the Mairowa Community in 2010. Mairowa, a vibrant Maasai village in northern Tanzania’s foothills, borders Kenya and the Serengeti National Park. This community of approximately 5,000 are primarily pastoralists and subsistence farmers. Like many rural villages in Tanzania, Mairowa has very little formal infrastructure. There is just one primary school, no secondary school and residents need to travel to neighbouring villages to access healthcare.
Water security is a major challenge. In 2023, Wild Impact partnered with the DeBoer Family, Explore With Purpose, Wine To Water, and TAASA Lodge, to implement a clean water project, providing the community with access to safe drinking water. Other initiatives in collaboration with the community have included the development of Mairowa Primary School; a long-standing project that started in 2010. These endeavours underline the relevance of conservation to meaningful community benefits.
