These are small interventions but for these children, they are life changing.
On Benguerra Island, part of Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago, a quiet yet meaningful transformation is unfolding. At Benguerra Primary School where over 500 students are taught in just six classrooms the pursuit of education has always been marked by resilience, carried forward by hope.
Today, that hope is taking shape in practical, powerful ways. Thanks to the united efforts of Wild Impact, &Beyond, African Parks, and generous donors, students are stepping into classrooms with backpacks in hand, seated comfortably at desks, and returning home with solar-powered lamps that allow them to study long after the sun sets. Small interventions, perhaps but for these children, they are life changing.
This is part of a long-term commitment to build a stronger foundation for education on the island. Wild Impact, &Beyond, and African Parks continue to collaborate closely with Benguerra’s community leadership to progressively improve the school’s infrastructure, aiming to transform it into a centre of learning that serves the island’s children with quality and dignity.
That vision became even more urgent, when community leaders shared a heartfelt request: learners needed basic learning supplies desks, backpacks, stationery, and most importantly, light. With no access to electricity on the island, studying after dark was nearly impossible, affecting students’ ability to keep up with lessons or complete their homework.
The response was swift. 550 students had received school backpacks stocked with stationery kits and rechargeable solar LED lights. Later 20 double desks arrived at the school sturdy wooden furniture that finally allowed 80 learners to sit properly and write with ease. These desks brought more than comfort they restored dignity and reinforced the belief that every child deserves a safe, welcoming learning space.
This progress would not be possible without the active leadership of the school’s management and the Kanhikwedo a community-elected council of traditional leaders and representatives. Together, they have kept momentum alive, advocating tirelessly for the needs of their children and community.
