The Programme recognises that impoverished rural communities live at the “coal face” of climate change, being directly affected by increased variability in temperature and rainfall. The programme has a focus on water security and is currently building momentum.
Thriving Communities is dedicated to supporting improved climate change resilience, enterprise capacity, youth employment and sustainable tourism activity in the communities that are the stewards of these landscapes and seascapes. This mission directly alignes with Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality), 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and 13 (Climate Action).
This program focuses on ensuring reliable water access for our partner communities. This includes repairing or drilling boreholes, establishing fresh water access points, and providing Hippo Water Rollers to facilitate the easy collection, transportation, and storage of clean water. By addressing water security, the program not only improves daily living conditions but also supports the success of food gardens, fostering greater resilience in these communities. Our Vision 2030 target is 100% of our partner communities ECD’s and schools have comprehensive water batteries and are fully water secure
