The Lemu Cooperative is made up largely of indigenous Mapuche-Pehuenche families living in Curarrehue. This organisation is dedicated to creating sustainable local development through the propagation and restoration of indigenous forest areas.
The families within this cooperative use their community land to collect, store and germinate seeds from the temperate rainforests that are characteristic of this region. Following germination, they nurture the saplings for two years. These young trees are then planted out to restore forest sections depleted through colonisation and lumber activities.
This approach connects businesses, organisations, individuals and communities with the indigenous forest; and with its restoration, the wholescale benefits of a healthy and resilient ecosystem.
