Ololosokwan is located in Ololosokwan Ward in the Ngorongoro district, Arusha, Tanzania. The school’s people-to-teacher ratio exceeds the Tanzanian Ministry of Education’s recommended standards, indicating a need for additional teaching staff and infrastructure to accommodate the student population effectively. Recognising the challenges faced by Ololosokwan Primary School, Wild Impact, in collaboration with andBeyond, has been actively involved in supporting the school’s development.
Future Foundations addesses the 4th Sustainable Development Goal which aims to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”. Children in developing countries are enrolled in schools but infrastructure and resources to meet their needs is lacking. Rural communities suffer most with inadequate facilities, overcrowded classrooms and too few teachers.
Having recognised these truths and embedded them at the heart of the organisation, Wild Impact has been working for three decades to improve the quality of, and access to, education in rural communities in conservation landscapes. Our vision 2030 target is to ensure 80% of final year primary scholars achieve an average greater than 60%.
In 2006, Wild Impact in partnership with &Beyond started working with the Ololosokwan Community; a Maasai village in Tanzania’s Ngorongoro District which lies at the foothills of the Serengeti National Park. Livestock herding is a predominant activity in this community that faces significant challenges in education and healthcare infrastructure due to its remote location. Since 2019, Wild Impact has worked in collaboration with the community to develop both schooling and primary healthcare resources. These endeavours underline the relevance of conservation to meaningful community benefits.
