Umhlengi Uyaphila Day Care, established in 2019, is located in Somerset, a community in South Africa. The facility comprises two small classrooms, a cooking area, a storeroom and two pit latrines. Currently, the crèche enrolls 11 children, cared for by five staff members, including four interns and one centre manager. The existing infrastructure does not meet the Department of Social Development’s standards, which has resulted in the withdrawal of government funding. To address these deficiencies, Wild Impact has been raising funds to establish a borehole, construct a kitchen with dining area, double classroom, perimeter fencing, enviroloos and a play area. These enhancements aim to provide a safe and conducive learning environment, enabling the crèche to regain government support and continue serving the community effectively.
